EASTON, Pa. (10/05/2013) Ross Scheuerman rushed for a career-high 188 yards on 20 carries with two touchdowns in Lafayette’s big win on Homecoming.
Scheuerman added four receptions for 69 yards and a kickoff return for 23 yards on his career day. Scheuerman’s day only told half of the story, as the Lafayette defense was stout, holding Bucknell to 80 total yards on 60 plays while forcing a Patriot League-record 13 punts by the Bison.
Lafayette started the scoring early in the first quarter on Scheuerman’s two-yard touchdown run. The run was set up by Tyrus White who stripped sacked Bucknell quarterback RJ Nitti. Ben Aloi recovered at the two and Scheuerman punched it in on the next play to give the Leopards a 7-0 lead at 10:37 10:37 in the first quarter.
On their next offensive series, after a Bucknell three and out, Lafayette went 53 yards in eight plays. The drive included two long runs from Scheuerman. He reversed the field to pick up 18 yards before scampering another 17 yards two plays later out of the wildcat formation. Scheuerman’s rushes set the table for a two-yard touchdown pass over the top from Andrew Dzurik to tight end Brandon Hall, to give Lafayette a 14-0 advantage with 5:18 remaining in the first. Dzurik, in his first start of the season, finished the day with 235 yards on 22 of 37 with two touchdowns passes with three interceptions.
Scheuerman added an exclamation point to Leopards’ first win of the season win with a career-long 78-yard touchdown run down the home sideline midway through the fourth quarter.
Final Score: Lafayette 31, Bucknell 7.
