PRINCETON, N.J. (10/12/13) PRINCETON, N.J. (10/12/13) - A three-touchdown performance by Ross Scheuerman fueled Lafayette’s offensive effort in a 42-26 loss at Princeton.
The first quarter was a back-and-forth offensive exhibition. Princeton scored on the opening drive, quickly covering 69 yards on eight plays over 1:56. The Leopards’ took even less time (48 seconds) to get on the scoreboard on their first drive. On the second play from scrimmage, Scheuerman broke through the left side of the line and outran the Princeton defenders for a 69-yard touchdown run.
Later in the quarter, a 39-yard Scheuerman kick return put Lafayette with a solid field position. The Leopards also benefitted from a pair of Princeton penalties and were left 1st-and-goal at the eight. Andrew Dzurik (20-36-2, for 243 yards) hit Pat Creahan for seven of the yards and Scheueman scored his third rushing TD of the half for the 20-11 lead with 1:56 left in the first. Scheuerman had 106 yards after the first quarter. He finished with 155 yards with the three scores.
The Tigers would regain the lead, 21-20, before halftime, scoring on Nolan Bieck’s career-long 40-yard field goal with 14 seconds left.
Princeton put away the game with its defensive pressure in the second half. Limiting the Leopards to only six second half points. For the day, the Princeton defense sacked Dzurik four times in the game and the Tigers held Lafayette to 31 offensive yards in the fourth quarter.
Final Score: Princeton 42, Lafayette 26.
